Accreditation
Pewaukee Sussex United is an Accredited Youth Academy as certified by WYSA.  Youth Academies are player development methods for U8 through U10 players.  Youth Academies accredited by WYSA focus on pool rostering of players with flexible game day play.  Youth Academies provide a higher level of training for the players desiring a more advanced development model.  As a Youth Academy, our program receives assessment and oversight by the WYSA Directors of Coaching.

In order to achieve accreditation, the club was assessed on the structure of the program includes the coaching education and license level of the director of coaching, trainers, and other coaches associated with the program. WYSA also evaluated our training programs and methods (sessions per week, training calendar, coaching methods and environments). The accreditation process also involved an in-person evaluation by a WYSA Director of Coaching to observe the player development methods and team training sessions with a post-observation assessment meeting to provide feedback to enhance our academy programs.

Cost

The Academy soccer program costs $385 at the U8 level and $400 at the U9 and U10 levels. The additional cost over Recreational soccer is allocated to the club’s registration fee with the state League, two tournaments (one in Fall, one in Spring), players cards, and Academy trainer sessions. Uniform fees are NOT included in these figures, but new uniforms are only required for new Academy players or players who require a larger size.

Team
Placement in the Academy program is established based on an evaluation of interested players who participate in an evaluation conducted by Director of Player Development - Academy, Melissa Kappeler.  The evaluation is used to determine the player’s skills and attitude.  Participating in the evaluation does not guarantee a spot in the Academy program; players who cannot follow the directions provided at the Academy evaluation may be asked to participate in Recreational soccer.  The Academy program may have up to three teams per age level per gender as long as it does not impact the recreational numbers and coaches are available.  It is our intention to have multiple teams at each level wherever possible.  These teams will be ability based, with the strongest players on the Red team, and the next group of players on the Black team, and the next group on the White team.  Throughout the season, players will be evaluated and team placement may vary throughout the season.  Any player not attending the Academy evaluations (or making prior alternative arrangements) will be placed onto a recreational team automatically. Parents are not allowed to attend or participate in the evaluation.

Expectations
Upon placement into the Academy program, it is the understanding of the player and parents that the team commitment is for the entire season which runs approximately August 1, 2013 through July 31, 2014.  The goal of the Academy program is to improve the individual skills of each player and in order to achieve this goal, each player is expected to attend and participate in all practices and games.  The success of a team is not based on wins and losses, but by the improvement in the skill levels of the individual players.  This can only be accomplished if both the parents and players understand that during the soccer season (fall/spring), soccer takes precedence over other sports.

Practices and Coaches
PS United’s Academy program will be coached by parent volunteers with the help of Academy trainers.  The Academy trainers will work with each team for an hour and an half each week.  Academy trainers will focus on player development.    We view training sessions as our primary tool to further the development of the individual player.  While the evaluation session in June will be used as guidance for initial team placement for the season, we will use a club wide ability-based model during the season.  In this set-up, player assessments will determine player groupings for one weekly training session with a club coach.  This session will be tailored to meet the individual needs of the player.  On the other night of the week, players will train with their rostered team and volunteer parent coach.

All players are required to attend practice times and dates as set by the coach.  Practices will begin the week of August 1, 2013.  All academy teams are required to practice at least two times per week for a minimum of 1 hour for U8 teams and 1 ½ hours for U9/U10 teams, depending on weather, league, and tournament play.  We will hold an optional night of practice every other week where we will combine the entire Academy group to do different drills and small sided games.  Practices days and times are determined by the coach and club and will be provided at a later date.

League
The Academy teams will participate in WYSA's Youth Academy Program.  Decisions on player placement for Academy play dates will be determined by Director of Player Development on an ongoing basis to best match the level of experience of the team.  Games are typically scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays but can occasionally be during the week depending on the number of teams in the league.

Tournaments
Each team is expected to participate in one tournament in the Fall and one tournament in the Spring.  Tournament participation will be in the Wisconsin/Northern Illinois area and at the coach’s discretion.  Additional tournament participation is at the parents’ cost and at the discretion of the coach.

Indoor Soccer
Teams are expected to participate in at least one indoor session or winter training program for an additional cost.
